AMBULATORY SERVICES & CLINIC DEVELOPMENT

“A year from now, you will wish you had started today."
Setting up new clinics is one of the many services we offer. Below are areas that we can assist you with:

· Planning: Business plan, needs analysis, ways to both build relationships but avoid Stark and anti-kickback issues.

· Location: Excellent signage required and an initial population of at least 30K patients within the vicinity of the clinic. You can do better with 100K or more possible patients.

· Staffing: Three staff members all that are needed initially (Physician, x-ray tech, and MA). Once there are more than 3-4 patients per hour being seen, more staff can be hired.

· Marketing: Average marketing for an urgent care center is 75K/year. It comes out to about 2-4% of total revenue. Some chain urgent cares, or those owned by academic medical centers, can spend as much as 200K to just get the marketing out for a new center. You don’t need this much, but it is important to understand the role of marketing. Ad-words, social media, and a positive physician referral network are all critical.

· Business Development Team: Need for a Community Facilitator, someone who goes out and sells the bacon. This can come in after you start the center, but it is crucial.

· Services: Look into what services you want to offer initially. You can grow them with time but it is important to be able to present the common and unique aspects of your urgent care up-front:

Common must-haves
  • Lab set up likely with a CLIA waiver, unless you want to do complete blood counts or more sophisticated testing
  • X-ray and imaging up to and including CT or MRI
Unique ways to differentiate your urgent care
  • Medication dispensing at point of care. This is easy and patients love it. I can help set this up for you.
  • Durable Medical Equipment: for sprains, aches, etc.
  • Weight management services: Medically supervised vs. Jenny Craig type of services
  • Cosmetic services: medical spa, vein treatments
  • Immigration exams and clinical trial participation: For the immigration exams, you have to get a civil surgeon certification. Patients can be informed of their ability to participate in trials if they choose and we can get you more options in terms of drug companies to partner with
